Worldspan was founded on February 7, 1990, and was then owned by affiliates of Delta Air Lines, Inc., Northwest Airlines and Trans World Airlines, Inc. It is currently owned by Worldspan Technologies Inc., or WTI (formerly named Travel Transaction Processing Corporation).
Since its 1995 advance into the world of Internet technology for the travel industry, Worldspan has successfully developed the strategies, solutions and services to ensure the company's long-term success in the new Web-based world of travel distribution. 
World headquarters are located in Atlanta, and sales, service, support, and training facilities or representation are strategically located worldwide.  
A Canadian subsidiary formed in 1994 called Worldspan International, Inc., serves Canadian travel agency customers. In 1997, the company launched a wholly owned subsidiary, Worldspan de Mexico, to serve customers throughout the Republic of Mexico. Worldspan entered Asia in 1998, and South America in 1999.
Customers are located in over 60 countries and territories in North America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, the Asia/Pacific, and Latin America and include travel agencies, airlines, travel suppliers, corporations, Internet travel booking services and Internet users. 
Approximately 1,720 technical, sales, and service employees staff Worldspan's global facilities.  
Worldspan serves customers through sophisticated global communications systems and networks, including the Internet, and wireless and interactive technologies and devices. 
The company provides electronic distribution of travel information and services, booking technologies, leading edge Internet products and connectivity, a full spectrum of e-commerce expertise, solutions and capabilities, and comprehensive airline technology services.   
Worldspan holds multimillion-dollar contracts with other technology leaders to provide worldwide data networks and strategic information systems that enhance Worldspan’s array of service offerings and position Worldspan in the forefront of e-business and Internet travel technology.
Worldspan provides Internet booking products and solutions to four of the world’s largest online travel Web sites (Expedia, Hotwire, Orbitz and Priceline).
Globally, Worldspan is the largest transaction processor for online travel agencies, having processed 56 percent of all GDS online air transactions during the 12 months ended September 30, 2006.
